Price tiers, price breaks and how a price is chosen
Every product has a retail price and optional Dealer, Trade and Franchise prices. A company's price tier decides which one its contacts pay; price lists, negotiated prices and quantity breaks can beat it.
Where it is
- Inventory → Products — Edit product → Pricing; Sale tab for price breaks
- Customers → Companies — Price Tier and the Pricing tab on a company
- Products → Price Lists — Dated promotions and contract prices
Settings for this
- Dealer Portal → Setup → Pricing tiers — Dealer portal tiers; a tier can use a product's tier price
- Products → Fitment & RRP Audit — Target margins that flag prices below target
The tiers
Each product carries:
- Sell $: the retail price (RRP).
- Dealer $, Trade $ and Franchise $: optional tier prices. Blank uses Sell $.
- Franchise % off RRP: keeps Franchise $ in step with Sell $.
Set them in Edit product → Pricing (see Create a product), or in bulk with a CSV import or the list's More → Franchise %.
Who pays which price
A company's Price Tier (Retail (RRP), Dealer, Trade or Franchise) decides what its contacts pay. Set it on the company in Customers → Companies, in the sidebar or with Edit. Link each contact to their company so tier pricing (and credit terms) apply. See Companies.
A dealer portal pricing tier set to use a product price (Dealer Portal → Setup → Pricing tiers) charges the same tier price, and keeps its dealers' company price tier in step.
Other prices that can win
- Price lists: dated promotions or contract prices. See Price lists and promotions.
- Negotiated prices: on a company's Pricing tab, a fixed price for one product for that company only.
- Quantity price breaks: on a product's Sale tab, a lower price from a minimum qty.
The order a line price is worked out
When you add a product to a quote or order for a customer linked to a company, the first of these that applies wins:
- An active price list that covers the product (one for this company beats one for all customers).
- The company's negotiated price for the product.
- The dealer tier price, for a company that's a dealer.
- A quantity price break for the qty.
- The company's price tier.
- Sell $ (retail).
The line editor shows RRP alongside, so discounts are visible. Min sell $ on the product is the floor for discounting on quotes.
Who can see what
Margins and costs on the Sale tab and price breaks need finance.view_margins and finance.view_costs. Editing prices needs inventory.edit.
