Brands: one name per brand, merging and undo
Brands are picked from one list. Products → Brands merges duplicate spellings and renames brands, carrying POS tabs, Shop by brand and pricing rules along, and every change can be undone.
Where it is
Brand on a product is picked from your brand list, like category. Type to search; a brand that isn't listed can be added with Add "…", and you're asked Did you mean when it looks like one that is. Whatever spelling an import, Shopify or a supplier feed sends, a brand you already have is stored in your spelling: GEN-Y HITCH lands as Gen-Y Hitch.
The Brands page
Products → Brands lists every brand with its product count (click it to see the products) and what else names it: Shop by brand, brands hidden from dealers, POS tabs, compatibility rules and franchise pricing rules.
- Needs tidying flags brands that look like the same brand spelled differently, and brands whose products use mixed capitalisation. Review & merge, Not the same, Use "X" and Tidy all capitalisation work as they do for categories.
- Merge moves every product to the brand you keep. Tick several rows and click Merge into… to merge them in one go.
- Rename changes the name everywhere. Renaming to a name that already exists merges into it.
- Remove appears for a brand no product carries.
A merge or rename carries along everything that names the brand: POS brand tabs, Shop by brand, hidden brands, price notices, dealer resources, compatibility rules, head office's franchise pricing rules and the AI assistant's preferred and hidden brands. Where the brand you keep already has one (it's featured already, say), that one stays.
A merged spelling is remembered: a feed or import that sends it later files the product under the brand you kept.
Putting products on a brand
Tick the products on Products and use Edit field → Brand. See Bulk edit products.
History and undo
Every merge and rename is listed under History, with Undo. Undo puts the products and everything that named the brand back, and skips any product edited since.
Who can do it
Changing brands needs inventory.edit. Without it the page is read-only.
