Consignment: sell a car for its owner
Hold a car for its owner: acquire it as Consignment, raise the agreement (reserve, commission, costs), sell it as agent, then settle, pay the owner and invoice your commission.
Where it is
- Dealer Management → Consignment
- Dealer Management → Consignment → New agreement
- Dealer Management → Stock → Acquire vehicle — Choose Source: Consignment.
Settings for this
- Dealer Management → Settings — Consignment agreement terms printed on the agreement (blank uses the built-in clauses).
On consignment the car isn't yours: you sell it as agent and your revenue is the commission.
1. Put the car on the books
Acquire the vehicle with Source: Consignment and the owner under Acquired from. No cost is recorded.
2. Raise the agreement
- Open Dealer Management → Consignment and press New agreement (or Raise consignment agreement on the unit).
- Pick the Consignment unit and the Consignor (whose car it is; they get the payout).
- Reserve price: the least the owner will accept. Selling below it needs their written consent.
- Commission type: a percentage or a fixed amount (inc GST).
- Recoverable costs: detailing, roadworthy, advertising, deducted from the payout.
- Tick Consignor is registered for GST if they are. For a private consignor the car isn't your taxable supply, so your GST is on the commission only.
- Press Create agreement.
On the agreement: Print agreement, upload the Signed consignment agreement, Consignor ID and Authority to sell, and press Mark PPSR checked once you have checked the car is free of finance. Terms can be edited until it is settled.
3. Sell it
Sell the unit through a normal deal (Sell a vehicle). The deal shows an Agency sale pill and explains the GST.
4. Settle, pay and invoice
Once the deal is delivered:
- Press Settle from sale. It works out Sold for, less commission, less recoverable costs, and the Payout to owner. Below reserve, it asks you to confirm you have the consignor's written consent. With no PPSR recorded, it warns first.
- Pay the owner, type the Payment reference and press Mark payout paid.
- Press Raise commission invoice. It raises a tax invoice for your commission to the consignor.
- Print statement gives the consignor their statement.
Recompute from the sale redoes the settlement while the payout is unpaid.
The list's tiles show agreements on the lot, Sold, not settled, reserve held and PPSR outstanding. Payouts owed also show on the Overview's Needs attention.
If something's not right
- "No completed sale found for this consignment unit — deliver the sale first": press Complete sale on the deal.
- "Settlement has already been paid — it cannot be recomputed": a paid payout is final.
- "An agreement needs a consignor" / "Pick the consignment unit": both are required. Only units acquired as Consignment are offered.
