Variants and superseded part numbers

Variants group sizes or colours of one product, each with its own SKU and stock. Succession records that one part number replaces another, so searches for the old one find the new.

Where it is

Variants

Use variants when one product comes in options, such as size or colour, that you stock and sell separately.

  1. Open the product and click the Variants tab.
  2. Click + Add variant.
  3. Enter the Option (e.g. Size), the Value (e.g. XL), and optionally its own SKU and Sell $.
  4. Click Create. The variant is a product of its own: receive or count its stock separately.

The tab lists every member of the family with its stock and a Family total. The detach button makes a variant a standalone product again, keeping its stock and history.

Superseded part numbers

When a maker replaces a part number:

  1. Open the product and click the Succession tab.
  2. Record the old number this replaces or the new number that replaces it. Search your catalogue, or type a part number you don't stock.
  3. Add an Effective from date and a Note (e.g. "MY26 renumber") if useful.

A product with a newer number shows a banner on its page, and searching the Products list for an old number points you at its successor.

For many at once, use Import / Export → Import part succession on the Products list. See Import and export products by CSV.
