Batch and serial tracking on a product
Turn on Track batch numbers or Track serial numbers on a product, and every receipt records them. The product's Batches or Serials tab shows what's on hand.
Where it is
- Inventory → Products — Edit product → Stock & purchasing
- Warehouse → Traceability — Trace a batch or serial through receipts and sales
Settings for this
- Edit product → Stock & purchasing — Track batch numbers / Track serial numbers, per product
Turn it on
- Open the product and click Edit product.
- In Stock & purchasing → Buying & selling rules, tick Track batch numbers or Track serial numbers.
- Click Save changes.
This only shows for stock items.
What happens next
- Receiving the product asks for the batch (with an optional expiry) or one serial per unit.
- A Batches or Serials tab appears on the product. It lists what's on hand, with Expires soon and Expired flags for batches.
- Stock received before you turned tracking on shows as unassigned. Someone with stock-adjust permission can put it into a batch, or scan in its serials, from that tab.
- Traceability follows a batch or serial from receipt to sale.
If something's not right
- "Batch records exceed the stock on hand" or "Some units on hand have no serial recorded": assign or correct them on the tab, or use Stock adjustments.
- Only a batch with no history can be deleted.
