Currencies: buying in another currency
Set the exchange rates used to cost products you buy in other currencies: live rates plus your bank's margin, or a fixed rate, and re-price everything in one go.
Where it is
Settings for this
- Settings → Currencies — Live rates, bank margin, rounding, fixed rates, re-price all
If you buy from overseas suppliers, BuildTrack can hold a product's supplier cost in their currency and work out your cost in dollars.
- Open Settings → Currencies.
- Live exchange rates: leave on to use the daily published (ECB) rates. Set Bank margin over mid-market to what your bank really charges (typically 0.5 to 1% for a forex account, 2 to 3.5% on a business card) and how to Round converted AUD cost.
- Currencies you buy in: pick from Add a currency…. Each row shows the live rate, the rate with your margin, and a Fixed rate box. Type a fixed rate to use it instead of the live one.
- Press Save.
- On each product, press Edit and pick a currency under Supplier cost in another currency.
Products costed in a foreign currency lists those products with the rate used and what they'd cost at today's rate. Re-price all at current rates updates them all (save your changes first).
The Home page Exchange rates widget shows the same currencies with a week's trend.
If something's not right
- "Live rates are off" error: with live rates off, every currency needs a fixed rate.
- "Live rates unavailable right now": the published rates couldn't be read. Fixed rates still work.
- Landed cost (freight and duty on a shipment) is on the purchase order. See Landed cost.
