Backorders
Goods you couldn't ship stay on the invoice as a backorder. Find them all in Sales → Orders → Sourcing; dispatch the rest when the PO lands.
Where it is
- Sales → Orders → Sourcing — Every order waiting on stock (this replaced the old Backorders page).
- Inventory → Dispatch — Orders waiting on stock sit in On hold, with the PO and its ETA.
Settings for this
- Settings → Orders → Orders that move themselves — "Draft POs for what's short" puts lines with no stock on a draft PO.
- Settings → Orders → Customer updates — "On backorder" email with the expected date, and again if it changes.
A line is on backorder when it can't ship because the stock isn't here — not just because nobody has dispatched it yet.
On the invoice
- The header shows Backorder · N short and the Dispatch panel lists On backorder.
- The strip says how many units are short and when stock is expected (from the order), with a Backorders button.
- The Fulfilment column on each line shows the PO bringing it in and its ETA.
The list of everything waiting
The old Invoices → Backorders page is now part of the Orders desk: Sales → Orders, Sourcing view, shows every order waiting on stock, from every channel. On the Dispatch board the same orders sit in On hold with the PO and ETA, and move back to To pick when the PO is received.
Getting it out
- Order the stock on a purchase order (from the sales order's + Order Parts, the Orders desk, or Purchasing). See Purchase orders.
- Receive the PO. Received stock is held for the orders waiting on it.
- Open the invoice and Dispatch available again — the preview offers what's now in stock. The invoice stays partially shipped until the last of it goes.
Drop-ship lines aren't backorders: the supplier sends them direct, and you close them off from the drop-ship PO.
