Security: your password and two-step sign-in

Change your password and add an authenticator app so a stolen password alone can't get in. Owners can require two-step sign-in for every owner and admin.

Where it is

Settings for this

Change your password

  1. Open Settings → Security (or avatar menu → Change password).
  2. Type a New Password (8 characters or more) and Confirm Password.
  3. Press Update Password.

Set up two-step sign-in

Two-step sign-in asks for a 6-digit code from an app on your phone as well as your password.

  1. Open Sign-in security (avatar menu → Sign-in security) or Settings → Security.
  2. Press Set up two-step sign-in.
  3. Open an authenticator app on your phone (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password or similar), add an account and scan the QR code.
  4. Type the 6-digit code it shows.

From then on you enter a code after your password. Add another app sets up a second phone as a backup. Removing an app asks for a code first.

Require it for owners and admins

Owners and admins see Require two-step sign-in for owners and admins. When ticked, any owner or admin without an app is asked to set one up before they can carry on. Other roles aren't affected. Set it up for yourself first so you aren't locked out.

Owners and admins who haven't set it up see a reminder banner until they do or dismiss it.

If something's not right

  • Lost your phone: an owner or admin of your business, or BuildTrack support, can remove the old app so you can set up a new one.
  • Forgotten password: use Forgot password on the sign-in page.
  • Can't open Settings: use avatar menu → Sign-in security, which every staff member can open.
