Notifications: the bell, push, and who gets what
Everything that needs you lands in the bell. Turn on push to get it on your phone or desktop too. Order alerts, daily emails, reports and customer messages each have their own settings.
Where it is
- Settings → Notifications — Push on this device and all your devices
- Avatar menu → Notifications on this device — The same push switches, for every role
Settings for this
- Settings → Notifications — Enable on this device; Send push notifications to my devices
- Settings → Orders — Who's on duty, order alerts, 7:30am and 4:30pm emails, customer order updates
- Reporting → Scheduled — Email digests, threshold alerts, quote hit list
- Integrations → Customer notifications — Texts and emails to customers
- Settings → Purchasing — Supplier payment reminder digest
The bell
The bell in the top bar holds everything that needs you: job changes, tasks, approvals, customer replies, mentions, calendar invites, order alerts and BuildTrack release notes. All and Unread tabs, Mark all read, and Clear read notifications at the bottom. Click one to open the record; ✕ dismisses it. Calendar invites have Going / Maybe / No.
Push notifications on your phone or computer
Push sends the same things as a banner and sound, even when BuildTrack is closed.
- On the device you want them on, open the avatar menu (top right) → Notifications on this device. Every role can open it. Settings → Notifications has the same switches for people who can open Settings.
- Press Enable on this device and allow notifications when asked. (The Enable notifications banner at the top of the app does the same.)
- Send push notifications to my devices is your master switch for every device you use. Off keeps everything in the bell only.
On iPhone and iPad, push only works once BuildTrack is on your Home Screen (iOS 16.4+). See Install on your Home Screen. Sounds and banners follow your device's own notification settings.
Who gets what (and where to change it)
| What | Who gets it | Where it's set |
|---|---|---|
| New orders, orders close to or past their deadline | The order's owner, then managers; whoever is on duty for that channel | Settings → Orders |
| 7:30am and 4:30pm order emails | Each person, for the orders they own | Settings → Orders: Send the daily emails |
| Email digests and threshold alerts | The recipients you name | Reporting → Scheduled. See Scheduled reports |
| Supplier payment reminders | The addresses you name, or the business email | Settings → Purchasing |
| Leave requests | The person's manager (Reports to on Team) | Settings → Team |
| Customer texts and emails (booking confirmed, job ready, pay links, review invites, quote reminders) | Your customers | Integrations → Customer notifications and Settings → Orders → Customer updates |
| Invoice payment reminders | Your customers | Settings → Quotes & invoices |
| Franchise order notifications | Head office and franchises | Settings → Network |
If something's not right
- "This browser has blocked notifications for BuildTrack": allow them from the lock icon in the address bar, then reload.
- "Notifications are switched off for BuildTrack" on a phone: turn them on in the phone's Settings → Notifications → BuildTrack.
- "This browser cannot receive push notifications": use Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or the Home Screen app on iPhone.
- Too many order bells: they clear themselves when the order moves on, is snoozed or put on hold. Change who's on duty under Settings → Orders.
