4. Clocking onto a job

Every labour line on a job has its own clock: Start, Pause and Finish. One job timer per person, on a computer or on your phone in My Workshop.

Where it is

Who this is for: technicians, apprentices, and anyone who works on jobs.

Where to find it

  • On a computer: open the job (Service › Workshop, tab Jobs). The Work tab opens first.
  • On your phone: My Workshop. Open it with My jobs in the Quick actions card on Home, or Technician View on the Workshop page on a phone.
  • For someone else: the job's Time tab.

Step by step: the Work tab

  1. Start. Each labour line has its own clock. Press Start: your timer runs on that line and the line goes to In progress.
  2. Moving to another line? Press its button. On a computer it reads Switch here; on a phone, Switch my clock here. It stops your other clock and starts this one. You only ever have one job timer, so starting a line on a different job stops the first one too.
  3. Pause stops your clock and leaves the line open: smoko, waiting on parts, or called to another job.
  4. Finish ✓ stops your clock and marks the line done. Ticking the line's box does the same. A finished line records its hours: the time clocked, or its estimate if nobody clocked.
  5. Others on the line show as small green chips with their initials and timer. Two people can work the same line.

Step by step: My Workshop

  1. My Jobs is on, so you see the jobs you're assigned to. Tap it to see every job. All, Booked, In progress and Ready filter by stage.
  2. Today lists what's booked to start today.
  3. Tap a job card. Labour lines · n/m done lists its lines, each with Start (or Switch here), then Pause and Finish ✓.
  4. Finished a line without clocking it? Press Mark done without clocking.
  5. General time is for work that isn't on a line, or a job with no lines: Start Timer, then Stop.
  6. Next step moves the job on, and the hold buttons say why work stopped. View Full Job → opens the whole job.
No signal? My Workshop keeps the timer on your phone, with the real start and stop times, and sends it when you're back online. It shows amber: offline — will sync. A line started with no signal is kept as general time on the job, not on the line.

Step by step: the Time tab

Use it to clock on someone else, such as an apprentice whose phone is flat, or yourself on a line from a computer.

  1. On the line, choose them from + Clock on…. Anyone already clocked onto this job shows (busy). Clock me on does it for you. Either way, a timer they had running on another job stops.
  2. Their timer shows on the line with Stop.
  3. Time that isn't on a line, or a job with no lines: the General labour row at the bottom has + Clock on (general).
  4. + Manual entry adds time after the fact: Task, Technician, Start, Stop, Type and Notes, then Add entry (lesson 5).

The top of the tab shows Estimated against Actual hours, and Billable. Labour cost and margin only show to people allowed to see them.

What happens by itself

  • One job timer per person. Starting a new one always stops the old one.
  • Your shift is separate. A job timer doesn't clock you on, and clocking off your shift doesn't stop it.
  • Moving a job on with no time clocked (for example Mark ready) asks first: No time clocked on this job. Add time takes you to the Time tab; Finish anyway carries on, and the job won't count in the Workshop hours report.
  • The Live floor shows you on the clock, on which job and line, and for how long (lesson 7).

Where it ends

Every line is Finish ✓, and the job's clocked hours sit against its estimate on the Time tab.
