5. Proof, and what happens after
A passed PDI is a dated record of what was checked, with photos and signatures. Know where it lives, what prints, and what to do when something goes wrong after handover.
Where it is
- Service → Workshop → Jobs — QC & Handover, Notes & files, More → Print job sheet
- Academy — Sign off Gold
Who this is for: everyone who does or signs off a PDI, and whoever takes the phone call when an owner comes back.
Where the proof lives
Everything stays on the job, dated, with who did it.
| What | Where on the job |
|---|---|
| The PDI: every answer, reading, per-line photo and note, the defect notes and the technician's signature | QC & Handover › 1 · QC, as saved |
| The handover: Marketing Gallery, Work Documentation and Handover Documentation photos, the Delivery list and both signatures | QC & Handover › 2 · Delivery |
| Who moved the job and when ("Status changed to ready"), and your own notes | Notes & files › Notes |
| Documents: a signed paper PDI form, the manufacturer's PDI sheet, compliance papers | Notes & files › Files, under Whole Job |
A saved QC list is a snapshot. Changing your PDI checklist later never rewrites it.
What the customer sees
On a job with a customer, Notify customer — ready sends a link to their own page. It shows the photos you left ticked (the three Delivery sets, by default), the invoice and how to pay. Check the photos before you send: anything ticked goes to the customer.
A PDI on a stock unit has no customer, so there's no page for it. The buyer's record is the deal.
Printing the job sheet
More › Print job sheet (on a phone, the ⋯ menu) opens a printable sheet: the job, the vehicle, the technicians, the scope, the tasks, the parts and the internal notes, with blank Technician Signature and Customer Sign-Off boxes at the foot.
It doesn't print the QC or Delivery answers, the photos or the on-screen signatures. Use it as the paper a technician carries, or for a pen signature. If you get one signed, scan it into Notes & files › Files.
When something fails after handover
It happens. What matters is that it's recorded against the PDI that missed it.
- Make a new job for the owner (Workshop course, lesson 2). After Complete sale, the vehicle already belongs to the buyer, so they're its customer.
- Mark it a comeback. On the new job's Details, paste the PDI job's number under Comeback. The job shows a red Comeback pill and View original job. Fill in What came back?
- Who pays. A comeback switches Charged to to Rework. Change it if a warranty or goodwill covers it.
- Under warranty? If the vehicle carries a warranty, More › Raise warranty claim on the job opens the claim.
- Look at the PDI. Open the original job's 1 · QC. Was the line there? Was it answered honestly? If the list didn't ask, add the line to your PDI checklist (lesson 1), so the next car is checked for it.
The Workshop course, lesson 10, covers comebacks and warranty claims in full.
Earning Gold
Read every lesson for Bronze and pass the quiz for Silver. For Gold, prove it on real work:
- 3 PDI jobs within 90 days whose QC passed, that you made or clocked time on; or
- a manager watches you run a PDI from the first line to the handover, and signs you off with Sign off Gold on the Academy page.
Where it ends
Every PDI leaves a record you'd be happy to show the owner. That's the end of the course: next, the quiz.
