5. Scanning the traveller
The traveller printed with each order carries a barcode per step. Scan it in the floor terminal’s scan box, or type the order number, and the step comes to the top.
Where it is
- Manufacturing → Floor — The scan box at the top
- Manufacturing → Orders — Print traveller on an order
- Scan Centre — Scanning an order number here opens the order
Who this is for: everyone on the floor.
The traveller
When an order is released the office prints its traveller: the order, its materials, its steps in order, and a barcode beside each step. It travels with the parts. A cheap USB or Bluetooth scanner works like a keyboard, so nothing needs setting up.
Scan a step
Tap the scan box (Scan a step or type an order number…), scan the step's barcode and the card for that step comes to the top of the All tab, highlighted for a few seconds. Press Start on it. With a scanner that sends Enter you don't even press Find.
Type an order number
No scanner? Type the order number (MO-0042 or just 42) and press Find: the order's first open step comes to the top.
Elsewhere
- The Scan Centre (Inventory → Scan) on a phone opens an order from its number or a traveller's order barcode, for a leading hand checking paperwork. A step barcode belongs to the floor terminal; scan it there.
If a scan is refused
- MO-0031 is completed, so its steps can't be worked: the order was finished or cancelled after the traveller was printed. Nothing is left to run on it.
- "Deburr" is no longer in the BOM for this order: a BOM change removed the step; ask the office to reprint the traveller.
- "Powder coat" is outside work: a contractor's step isn't run on the floor; the office sends it out and marks it back (Planning course, lesson 6).
- Step not found: the barcode isn't one of ours. Type the order number instead.
